RE: [IP] Pump training

Hi Pammie, I am one of those people that sometimes irritate the endos. I
have been diabetic for 22 years also. When I received my MM pump last
October, I was told I would have to wait a couple of months to meet with the
rep, yadda yadda yadda....do you think I waited???? Of course not...I dont
recommend this to anyone, but my husband and I calculated everything on our
own and watched the video that MM sent along with the pump. I also had help
from another pumper that had just started the pump, actually I met her on
this mailing list. My dr. was upset and so was the rep, but once I told
them what my calculations, basal rates, etc., were, they were "astonished" I
could figure it out....who knows why, but anyway...John Walsh's "Pumping
Insulin" book is great, and I had not been counting carbs that long either.
I have a nursing degree, but work as a paralegal now and am not an active
nurse anymore and its been a long time since I became an RN. So I dont
think my nursing skills were that much of a help. And, I feel like I know my
pump inside out. Also, I did end up meeting with the CDE, MM rep, later,
they just laughed and thought I was a trip and my endo is no longer upset
with me. I have never had an AIC higher than 5.2 since being on the pump.

Good luck! You will do great!

I have a question, has any one gone through pump training at "Helwig
Diabetes Center" or any other diabetes center. Why do you go to 3 classes
before you even take the pump with you?
