I don't think you're being obsessive at all! 

One of the things I make a point of doing is to request a copy of all
lab tests -- that way I KNOW how my statistics are doing. 

The other observation I have is that docs often accept ANYTHING less
than life-threatening as OK -- personally, I feel that ADA standards for
action (A1c over 8.0) are too high -- they are giving people a sense of
false security about complications.
