[IP] newly diagnosed

I got a frantic call from my niece who's 11 year old
son has just been diagnosed. Her doctor is telling
her it may take a month to get an appointment with a
specialist. In the meantime his advice was- don't let
him have any sugar and don't try to find out any info
regarding diabetes so the specialists can inform you
correctly. My first reaction was - GET A NEW DOCTOR-.
She is very upset and trusts her doctor. I explained
carbs and how a sugar or an apple reacts. I told her
to learn as much as she can prior to the appointment.
If it actual takes a month for an appointment, how
would this affect her son. She lives in a small town
in Utah, I live about 2 hours away from her in a small
town in Colorado. I'm the only person with daibetes
she knows. When I was diagnosed 9+ yrs ago, I knew
nothing about diabetes. I've been using a pump for 5
years and am learning constantly. Thanks, Beth
Howell- worried aunt.
