About the girl who was getting poor or no results from Humalog:

Sometimes, for reasons unknown, a diabetic will develop an auto-immune
reaction to insulin itself -- and become highly resistant to ALL forms
of insulin. When that happens, the person needs MASSIVE amounts of
insulin, 500, even 1000 or more units a day in order to bring the BGs
down and prevent ketoacidosis.

Fortunately, it's not a permanent condition and does subside, but it's
very hard to treat and needs to be treated by someone who knows what's
going on. There are concentrated U-500 insulins available (by doctor's
prescription), and BG goals may have to be adjusted until the condition

I don't know if that's what happening to this poor girl, but she should
be under the care of a pediatric ENDOCRINOLOGIST, preferably someone who
has experience and can determine if this kind of insulin resistance is
developing, and who can treat it properly.

I think the parents should waste no time in at least getting a consult
-- ketosis is a serious thing, and NOTHING to fool around with!

Let us know what happens!
