[IP] cataract surgery and pump

scheduled next week for first eye. Not terribly worried, because i don't
really have a choice. My problem is the pump. Spoke to the optho. surgeon and
he feels there's no problem keeping it on. I've had other minor surgeries,
plus a colonoscopy or two, and they never even checked my bg. No problem.
He did say that, if the bg gets too low, they'll throw some glucose in the
I.V. NO WAY! It'll be a long time getting it normal, and with my lifestyle
and relatively low bg's, i'll end up in the E.R. after that (LOL:) Any
suggestions? I'll be fasting from midnite, and it will be done early. Procedure
is only 1/2 hr., and recovery room a few hours. I would like to think
they'll let me correct once i'm awake. I know the ambulatory unit doesn't let u
test with your own meter, I can let them do it but, if it goes up too much
(after surgery it may), they'll pump me full of insulin. Can I win here?
Should I lower my basal rate and check every hour before surgery? Duh!!!
stumped
