[IP] Question About Frozen Shoulder and PT

Seven years ago I developed frozen shoulder on the left side, following a
mild injury. I tried a bunch of different treatments (orthopedics,
accupuncture, PT, nutritional therapy, chiro, etc.), none of which seemed
effective. Eventually, I quit all the treatments and just went along with
my life as best I could. Gradually, over a period of months, the pain
lessened and I got back about 80% mobility. A little later, my chiro
performed an adjustment that restored me to about 95% mobility.

I am in the getting-worse process with my (never-injured) right arm now,
going on for many months, but really painful for about the last month.
About 3 weeks ago, for no apparent reason, my left arm started acting up
too. Now I frequently have pain in both arms (shoulders, referring to upper
arms, elbows, and even wrists) even when I'm not moving them. I have
trouble dressing, and driving is becoming increasingly difficult. The
relentless pain is very difficult to manage and exhausts me. I can barely
make it to work most days, and some days I can't.

So I went to the orthopedist to get a cortisone shot today. He's really
pushing me to go to physical therapy, but I have mixed feelings. For one
thing, I don't think it helped a lot the first time. For another, it's very
time-consuming and I already lack the energy to do much in the way of
extracurricular activities. I don't relish spending what little leisure
time I have getting my arms to hurt worse. Also, at age 50, I don't really
care if I'm able to play beach volleyball or not. I just want to be able to
do my job (mostly work at a PC), some household chores, and enjoy my family
and pets without being in constant pain.

If you have had PT, esp. for frozen shoulder, I would very much appreciate
hearing how you did with it. Did it help? If so, how much? How long did
you go to PT? Did you quit when you no longer needed it, or because you got
tired of going?

Please private me if possible, as I am on web-only for the group.

Thank you,

Laurel Sedgwick
