Last I heard, they were approving it on a case by case basis for those
people who had hypoglycemia unawareness, frequent hospitalizations, etc. In
other words, I think you have to try to prove your case using your medical
records and your doctor will probably have to argue on your behalf, but it
can be done. I haven't tried, but we have CIGNA through work (State of VT)
and I just heard of a veteran type 1'er with hypoglycemia unawareness who
got the CGM unit and sensors approved in a different department. Sorry I
don't have any first hand knowledge of the process to guide you any further
than that.
