No really. Gathering carts is not work it is part of the company exercise
program. Greeting customers is just time for talking instead of working. I
do not know why people think Wal-Mart should pay for people to gab and
exercise!

He probably does that for minimum wage with no breaks or meals. If he
sneezes and looks away from the door it is deducted as time off the clock.

 they found some kid, perhaps one who speaks no english, but can recognize a
face. His underpaid no-benefit's job is to sit  by that exit with your photo
in hand,  and just scanning the scene for your arrival. When he sees you, he
holds down a  button that temporarily turns off the detector so it doesn't
go off as you pass.. He then gets to follow you around the store to be sure
you're not an evil shoplifter,  so that he can then again press that button
as you leave... . .
