Check into the ADA Rules and Regs. Here in Grand Rapids, MI I had to have
breakfast @ 9:00 a.m. daily. ADA requires the employer to make reasonable
accomodations for my diabetes. It was determined that allowing my breakfast was
reasonable. I had breakfast right at my desk, the first four years was in a
private office the last year was in the open office area. I also was exempted
from jury duty because they were unable to allow my meals at reasonable times.

Dear IPr's
I've happily been a receptionist w/my company for 18 years. Never had a
complaint. This past Sept. 27 and then again Oct. 27, I was told by my
boss that I had been eating at my desk. (the only meal I eat is my
breakfast cereal when no one is around, about 10-11am). The first time, my
jaw dropped. The second time, I was fuming because the complaint was that I
was "slurping at my desk". Everybody on my floors know that I'm a diabetic.
All these years except for last and this year, I probably was the only
receptionist (out of 9)w/the least sick days. At least w/my old boss (she
transferred just a few months ago) she understood because her husband is
diabetic. This one, I'm getting the feeling she's enjoying it. She never
offered to back me up. Any advice before I go running to HR? I literally
feel as if I'm being harassed.
