For those living in or visiting the San Francisco Bay area, the November
meeting of the Baypumpers Pump Group is scheduled for Tuesday, November
18 at the Diabetes Society of Santa Clara Valley in San Jose. The
moderator for the meeting will be Alice Orth who is a certified pump
trainer, RN and CDE. We are a diverse, friendly group and we always have
fun while at the same time learning new things about pumping. The
meeting is a great place to share ideas and experiences and the group
leaders are very helpful for answering questions and exploring
problems. Family members, significant others and friends are also
welcome to attend. There is no cost and you do not need to be a member
of the Diabetes Society.
We have several interesting guests invited for the meeting this month.
Linda Miller, Professional Sales Specialist with Lifescan, the maker of
a variety of One Touch glucose meters including the Ultra, will be with
us to show us the recently introduced Ultrasmart meter. This meter
allows you to do more than simply test your blood sugar. With
push-button ease, you can keep track of your food, exercise, medication
or other factors that may affect your blood sugar. You can also view
charts and graphs and spot trends. It should be interesting for us to
learn more about this meter. In addition, Linda will also give us a
brief demonstration of the LifeScan Diabetes Management Software.
Our second guest is someone that was with us in October. At that
meeting, Keri Leone and Carrie McCorkindale, representatives of Animas,
demonstrated the Animas IR 1000 insulin pump. In the last month, Animas
has announced the upcoming introduction of a new model with new
features. Carrie, Clinical Manager for Animas as well as a Registered
Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator, will be back with us to tell
us about the new pump and when it will be ready for sale. We also
invited Carrie for a return visit because of the collaboration of
Lifescan and Animas to produce a meter/pump combination similar to the
one introduced by Medtronics MiniMed and BD. With Linda Miller joining
us from Lifescan, it seemed appropriate to have Carrie with us, too.
Looks like we will have a busy and informative meeting. But we will
also have time for discussing questions, thoughts and ideas about
diabetes and pumping, so bring yours along.
