I've had the type of surgery you describe about ten years ago.  While I
don't have full range of motion,my shoulder is so much better.  You can
actually move your arms in a windmill-type motion as opposed to having
someone help you get dressed because the arm won't go up down or around.

You will probably still need some pt, but what a diference.
