Hi Skip,

When she is ill it wise to test more often.  Your diabetes teaching
nurse or doctor should give you a scale of pumping insulin according to
blood sugars tested at different times.

I have a scale that indicates the units necessary to cover all blood
sugar readings.  You may find that if she is low before a meal she may
require less of a bolus for that meal.  If she is high during an illness
you need to know how much if any additional insulin is needed to cover
that high.

The scale is different for everyone depending on how each unit lowers
ones sugars.
