Re: [IP] SCARY

Hi Pete --

*Severe* hypglycemia is one of the real trial of DM sufferers. It can
come
at *anytime*, *anywhere*. Remember that A1C's measure something like
the
*average* blood sugar over a period of 6-8 weeks, so, it's not an
indication
of *instantaneous* blood glucose levels. Someone on one of there lists,
posted that instantaneous BGs move from 40-400 and vice versa, over
seconds.
So, the chance for a severe low can be quite risk with someone with
"tight"
control. And pregnancy usually causes BGs to fluctuate all over the
map!

You migt want to get your wife to *eat* something *all* the time ... 6 -
8
times daily. She might eat *very* small meals, or snacks every two
hours or
so. And she ought to eat something *in the middle of the night*, as
well.

I have *no* idea how "close" you came to "losing" your wife.
Fortunately,
you *didn't*, abd that's all that really matters, now isn't it?

You might want to get her DM dr to prescribe some Glucagon for her.
It's
a substance secreted by the liver that *raises* your BG levels ... and
it's
*injected*, so you can give it to her *immediately*. And it raises BGs
quicky.

Hope this helps...
