Re: [IP] Insulin Mixtures

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and was
taking prednisone for months. Prednisone can wreak havoc with your blood
glucose levels. I was very glad that I had my pump!!! I maintained good
control through out that period. I did however, need to almost double my
basal rate and bolus more than I normally would have.

I don't think that combining the two insulins is a good idea because of the
basal rate of the pump. Also, keep in mind that it may take longer than 10
days to find what works for your husband. When I went on the pump I was
completely healthy and it took a good three weeks or so to find the right
combination of basal and bolus rates. As frustrating as that is, your husband
may simply need to play around with the pump (along with your specialist)
until he finds what works for him while taking prednisone.Once he stops
taking the prednisone, he'll have to adjust again because the demand for
insulin won't be so high.

Hope this helped!
