Re: [IP] Hip site and not using skin prep - woops

James and others
I gave up on using skin preps because I think the alcohol is an allergen. I
really noticed the last time the alcohol preps as being a allergen when the
blood draw spot on my arm had hives - then the hives spread on my arm toward
the wrist like it was traumatized. I tried using betadyn too, which was a
pain because it took so long to dry. Now I don't prep the spot at all and
have been doing ok with sites. I use sils with no dressing on top like the
IV 3000 tape which is not as breathable as the sils tape. My sites last the
whole three days unless I go swimming a pool.
Regarding sites, I can no longer use my upper abs because I think they are
all scared - the site goes bad and hives like to be there. I use the above
pubic line, inner hip - front pocket of jeans area, top of buttocks and my
back. The buttocks and back area needs insertion help obtained by family
members as well as needs to be able to be connectable/disconnectable by me.
Regarding the hives, I had another outbreak that spread resulting in my
allergy test being cancelled because I have to go another round of
prednisone. Hives are definitely evil! Sharon B
