I too was taught this.  I think it is fine when one is not lo-low. Rarely
can I wait the 15 min.re-test, re-eat.
I'm with Jan, empty the fridge, esp when I have a bg of 32!  It takes me
about 65 carbs to 120, at present.  YMMV.  Linda K
