Actually it is the use of Ultralente with any short term insulin (Reg. 
or Humalog).  Lente has an activity curve with about the same peak 
as NPH.   Ultralente's peak profile is a flatter line, especially when 
taken twice a day, thus it mimics the basal rate of a pump.
