These problems sound like just a normal adjustment, it takes some time to 
find out what works for you and what doesn't.

A couple suggestions:
If you have the neck of the syringe outside the pump, consider using the 
adapter and using the short syringe method.  

A different type of pump case may be the answer.  Instead of wearing the pump 
with the clip, consider either a wrap type case (it wraps around a belt so 
the pump is horizontal rather than vertical) or a clip-on type case with a D 
ring (that dangles from a belt loop).  You may want to put the pump in a 
pocket or wear it hanging from a necklace, tuck it in your bra or strap it to 
your leg.  If you are using a quick release type of infusion set, you can 
thread the tubing through the tiniest of holes which opens up all sorts of 
possibilities of where to put the pump.

I hope time helps you feel more comfortable with the pump.
