Not exactly. The newer faster meters tend to be electronic,that is they
read the resistance the blood has to a small elctrical current run through
it from 1 lead to another. They ARE testing whole blood, since that's what 
you give tem, but add the 12% (or whatever factor the manufacturer believes 
is suitable) to the reading before displaying it.
