I got my letter today. I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach. I am
using a pump (cozmo) that will be 6 years old in April. I have a newer pump
but my pup chewed it so that I can't get the cap on that holds the
cartridge in. Smith will not honor the warranty because of the way it was
broken. Now I'm going to hope my old pump will hold out for anther 4 yeears
I am really depressed about the whole thing and want to pull the dogs
teeth.arrrrrh. I'm having a pity party and everyone on the list is invited.
Party will last 24 hours if not less. Thanks for listening. Unfortunately I
willl have to go back to MDI yuk and have toleave this w onderful list.

Dear Joanne, I also called about the replacement pump from the recall. We
signed up in December when the notice first came out because my son does
the extended boluses etc. ( they also called us about the issue) and I didn
want him to have any confusion about the data because of the flaw in the
software. I checked in February to see what was taking so long and they
then than they were sending replacements out as they came available.
even though we had listed that he did use the affected features, they had
listed as not using them, which put him further back in priority. They
changed that for me and were on a higher priority list. When the
out on Wednesday I called to see how that affected the replacements. They
said the replacements would still be made, but had no idea when we could
expect it. This has been my only disappointment in the 6 years he has been
pumping, as I don't feel comfortable with him using these features until
replacement. Our rep. was great, service great, excellent pump, love the
He still has three years on this pump and I am hoping for a buyout or new
pump coming out before we have to make a decision. He needs a 300 unit
cartridge so Animas is out and he hates the way the Minimed works. I am
discouraged because we had been looking forward to the integration with the
Navigator which we decided to purchase out of pocket last year and I feel
will be taking steps backwards in our choices if no new pumps are added to
competition. What a waste of great technology.

I called Smiths today to find out the status of my replacement pump from
recall. They received my request on 2/2/09 . have no date for when they
will replace the pump, as there is no medical urgency . and just say that
they will replace it "sometime". I was "assured" that this recall will be
satisfied, having nothing to do with yesterday's announcement.
Has anyone received their replacement on this recall?
