[IP] Was outdated infusion sets/ now allergic to infusion sets
The first MM sofset infusion set that I tried, the area immediately started
to itch, which I ignored. Two days later when I removed the set, I actually
had 2 blisters and a rash where the set was.
I continued to use them and tried everything. I removed the sticky tape on
the "wings" of the set. Prior to insertion, I tried just washing with soap
which didn't help, then wiping the site with alcohol, IV prep, or skin prep.
I also used IV3000 tape as a barrier btwn my skin and the set. I also tried
the other tape that came with the set. Using the barriers, I didn't get the
blisters, but the sites always itched, and were red. Absolutely nothing
helped. I had the same problem with the quicksets.
I was ready to give up and stop using the pump altogether. I tried and love
the Accucheck ultraflex infusion sets and I have absolutely NO problems, no
reactions to them. I keep the sets in for 3 days and I have no irritation
whatsoever(knock on wood).
For me, it definitely was the infusion set I was allergic to.

>How did you find you were allergic to the sets? When I first went on the
insulin pump and still today I have an >undiagnosed problem with hives. At
first I thought it was something to do with the set.
