[IP] Re: Type 1 in the Absence of Insulin

I've read a few posts inquiring what happens to an insulin dependent diabetic 
in the absence of insulin. Way back in the 1920's, Type 1 was controlled by 
diet, pretty much a starvation diet, of 900 calories or less. Many survived 
for a number of years. Dr. Allen developed a starvation diet that kept 
several of his patients alive long enough to benefit from insulin. I believe 
some of those patients are still alive. You can read about all this in a book 
by Michael Bliss called The Discovery of Insulin.
