But, if you don't have a .05 basal rate on your pump, you can do an 
average; for example,  .8 .8 .9 .8 .8 to create a pattern.  The prior
numbers obviously will average 8.2 over a period of 5 hours...or you
could do  .8 .9 .8 which would average 8.3in three hours and so on.

The other alternative is to use diluted insulin and then you can use
1.7 diluted which would be 8.5 undiluted.

IMHO...I am told that both these options work for children who need
very small basal rates.
