[IP] Mail List Logistics - Reminder
This is just a reminder to our list members about some of the aspects of how
the Insulin-Pumpers Mail List operates. Currently there are over 3700 people
who subscribe to this list and being aware of the following issues will help
the list operate effectively for all of you.
When you send a new message, or reply to one, your message is sent (in one
form or another) to all 3700+ members. When you reply to a new profile with a
friendly welcome message or encourage a specific member with an
at-a-boy/at-a-girl or congratulations message this goes out to all the
members. With this kind of system it is very easy for many subscribers to
become inundated with messages (many of which may not be of direct interest).
For this reason when sending a message that is only of interest to a specific
person please send it to that person - not to the whole list.
Sending your reply/message to a specific person (rather than the whole list)
is easy to do in most mail program. Hit "reply" and compose your message as
normal but before hitting "send" delete the Insulin-Pumpers.Org address from
the TO: field and replace it with the specific address (which was usually
copied into the body of the message).
On a similar issue, because of the large mail volume, many of our members use
the SUBJECT field of a message to decide it they will read it or not. In
addition an accurate subject line is necessary when people are trying to
follow a particular thread or to search the archives to locate particular
messages of interest. Please be sure that the subject line of your
message/reply accurately reflects the contents of the message. This is
particularly important if replying to a message in the digest where most mail
programs by default create an "[IP] Re: insulin-pumpers-digest V5 #588" type
An additional aspect to be aware of is that messages concerning your
subscription (subscribe, unsubscribe, address change, vacation period, etc.)
should NOT be sent to the list. The 3700+ members do not need to see these
type messages. In addition it greatly extend the time period necessary for the
item to be addressed. Send all of these type messages directly to
HELP@Insulin-Pumpers.Org where they can be dealt with promptly.
Additional information about the mail list is included in the welcome message
you received when you joined the list. If you need a new copy of this welcome
message you can get it by sending an email to email @ redacted containing the
single line "intro insulin-pumpers".
If you need help with any of these issues, or any other concerning the
logistics of the mail list and your subscription please write to
