good point, Gail.  I just meant that a diabetes specialist should be an 
option, not mandatory.  Nobody should need approval from another physician to 
see a diabetes specialist if they choose.

My childhood care came from our family pediatrician.  What a world of 
difference when I got my first endo, and a specialist in diabetes no less!  
Aside from the difference in information (greater now that there is so much 
more information about the disease), it was just nice to be seen in an office 
with other people like me.
