[IP] RE: insulin-pumpers-digest V4 #46



Had to let you know "here's what I like about the south..." ( old song, 
heavy sarcasm here)   The local hospital will gladly provide you with a 
free Sharps container, nice red heavy plastic job.  HOWEVER,  they will not 
accept them full, the local waste control (garbage pick-up) will not accept 
them in garbage, and the local landfill will not accept them, and my 
doctor's office won't take them   So, I go the coffee can/duct tape method 
and put em in the trash.    NOT a good solution, but this is Alabama, where 
things don't have to reasonable, they just have to be "the way they have 
always done it"!

Many larger cities now will provide sharps containers if you call the
trash collection department (whatever the name is). Likewise, many
hosptials and clinics will provide one if you ask. I got one at the
Stanford Hospital and take it over there every year or so to have it
emptied although the city will also accept them.
