[IP] Re: Quick question on appropriate post prandials

The "gold standard" for diabetes or glucose intolerance is not to use a
glucose meter but venipuncture, and if there are symptoms or concerns, a 2
hour glucose tolerance test is the standardized test. After a few days of an
appropriate diet with adequate carbohydrates, the patient comes in fasting,
has a blood draw, then is given a measured amount of glucose to drink, then
has another blood draw (all are venipuncture usually) in one and two hours.
Some are skipping the 1 hour test. The ADA and WHO (world health
organization) has specific criteria for the diagnosis.
