You bring up the liability of nutrition labels; serving sizes aren't
necessarily "typical" or more specifically, "your."  I take the ratio of
carbs to total weight from nutrition labels, and always calculate my own
"serving" nutrition content.

Regarding scales, I got mine from Edmund Scientific (www.edsci.com) and
spent about $150 for it.  I like it.
