I run regularly (3-5 miles a day average).  I check my BS before I go out for
my run and when I return.  I frequently will cut my basal by 30-50% if I
expect to go out very hard or run over 5-6 miles.  I always cut my basal by
50% on race days, usually 2-3 hours pre race and sometimes for 2-5 hours post
race.  I am usually competitive in my age group of 30-39 year old males.  I
rarely have issues with my BS crashing during or after races or training runs.
I too hope to sometime train for and complete a marathon.
