Re: [IP] thinking of going on pump....
Congrats on the A1c - I dont think this is the norm for most type 1 and that is
why we/us switch to a pump - I can tell you what the pump has done for me -
Freedom to eat when I want no long acting insulin in my system
Freedom to wake up when you want
Freedom to exercise when and how intense I want on a very short notice
No insulin or needles to carry around
A1c down from 9 and now ranges from 5-6
For me being on the pump has drastically changed my life for the better - I
would never go back to shots - this may not be the case for you and with an A1c
of 5, you may have a hard time convincing an insurance company that you need
one. - Hope this helps and good luck!

I am a type one- I got it when I was 24 (am not 35). I currently take lantus
and humalog, and am in very good control . (a1c usually around 5.8). I have a
question for all you pumpers:
Should I go on the pump, and if so, why? I am able to keep good control with
the Lantus and humalog....I don't mind the injections so much....is there any
particular reason to switch? Does it make it easier? What are the benefits of
the pump ...when lantus is so good? Is it just more convenient...or does it
offer better control?
Thanks!
Dara
