[IP] My CGMS Experience Clarification

Hi Fellow Pumpers
Some of you have written to request for my slide presentation on my 3 day
CGMS experience and you have received theslide presentation from me. Some of
you have also written to me with some additional questions.

As such I thought I put up a clarification of my experience in addition to
the graphical data and notes I have added on to the slide which you receive.

1. During the 3 days CGMS which I was on , I was not able to see the minute
to minute BG variation of BG. I was only able to see my 24 hours BG chart
at the end of 3 days. As such there was no effort made to "adjust" the BG.

2. Having mention the above , during the 3 day CGMS , I was still required
to do my BG test ( pre and post meal , carbo counting , meal boluses, and
correction boluses if my post meal BG is out of range. As a pumper , this
is required of me by my endo.

3. my objectives for the 3 days CGMS were
a. To determine my overnight BG profile and see if there was a need to
further fine tune my basal to prevent unneceesary lows and the
   dawn effect.

The CGMS has shown me the precise timing when I should fine tune my
overnight basal to prevent my BG from dipping too low, and when I should
increase my basal to take care of the dawn effect so that I can have a good
BG reading when I wake up in the morning.

b. To determine the effect of dining out ( diet normally have substantial
amount of fat) on BG and how to adust the bolusing and correction technique.

c. To determine the effect of home cok food on BG.

During this 3 days, I carried life as normal as I would without the CGMS. It
should not be used in a control environment or else that will defeat the
purpose.

It should be use to give you a good indication how your body will respond to
various diet , activities , and you would response to post meal high BG
( to take correction , by how much or do nothing about it).

You may want to work with your endo , to determine how you can use the CGMS
to fine tune your control.
