[IP] RE: Frequency of BG test and Poll

Well, count me on the side of not greatly improved BG.
I was started on Regular on the pump, due to a Humalog allergy. I don't
remember the A1C's but then when I switched to Novolog (as a trial before the
US release of Novolog) I got a 7.6. Then I got Thyroid disease, and the whole
thing went back to 9's. Since getting a different pump, I have been in the 7's
and 8's.
I check BG all the time however, I have complicated circumstances that even I
get confused at. One thing is that certain carbs do not cause my BG to go up.
If I eat pasta for instance, I have to have bread with it or I will go low
from counting carbs and taking insulin for pasta.
Often I will check and find a high BG, but when I take the correction dose
(with no food bolus on board) I will crash in less than half an hour. I
cannot drive the car at 70, I see giant white spots at 60 or 65 and if I am
out of the house at 100, I usually drop very very quickly. My last pump
trainer (the best I ever had) taught me to cut my basal 20 percent thirty
minutes before leaving the house for any kind of shopping or walking around.
That works really well, otherwise I go low everytime I hit a store or mall.
So for me at least, it is not a matter of checking BG.
