Re: [IP] Cataracts

Sue,
I am 40 and have had diabetes for 32 years. I have retinopathy and am blind
in my left eye from it, but the retinopathy has been stable for probably 20
years. When I was 35 I had a cataract removed from my right eye and it was
like having a miracle performed. I now have 20/25 vision and just need
glasses to read!! When I was considering when to have surgery, how long to
wait, etc., I asked if it had to be "ripe" to remove it - that was something
I had always been told. My Ophthalmologist said that the time to have the
surgery to remove it was when it bothered me enough and affected my daily
life. I had been having difficulty reading and my vision was a bit worse
than 20/40 and within 6 months I needed to have my driver's license renewed,
so I went ahead with it. It was a very simple procedure and such quick
results. I hope this helps and wish you the best!!
