Hello Bonnie,
What you have is PROBABLY a subconjuntival hemorage.  Sounds bad, looks bad 
but is harmless.  It is just like a bruise except it is under a very thin 
layer of tissue surrounding the eye.  They take a while to heal, but is 
usually just a very small amount of blood.  Looks like alot though doesn't 
Things that should make you concerned -
1) Any pain in the eye.
2) A change in the vision.
3) Flashes of light that you notice even with the eye closed.
4) A change or onset of small black or grey spots in your vision.

It also should not get any larger but is slow to resolve.  Remember, YMMV, 
but this is what we see in the ophthalmology clinic every day!
