[IP] diabetes cure in mice

Did anybody else read about the study at Mass.General hospital where they
cured type 1 in mice. Reportedly, they used a chemical compound that homes
in on the genetic defect in Type 1 diabetes and destroys the errant immune
cells. Then they injected the diabetic mice with healthy blood cells from
other mice and the injected cells taught the new cells not to attack the
pancreas. The diabetes in the mice disappeared. The next step is to
determine whether defective human immune systems can be prodded as the mouse
systems were. This process should take years unfortunately.
It sounds like very exciting research. This article was in the Boston Globe
today and written for the average reader. Does anybody know any more about
this kind of research????
