The American Association of Diabetes Educators web site is www.aadenet.org.
There is info there that you can use, especially what the govt. is doing for
diabetes...and not doing for diabetes. Are your state reps
diabetes-friendly..check it out. There is proposed legislation HR 1645 to
allow CDE's to bill and be reimbursed for out pt. ed. by Medicare. If this
is approved, the AADE believes ins. co's shall follow. CDE's are patient
advocates. The AADE supports diabetes education. Go to their web site, click
onto Gov.,then follow prompts to legislative update. With a click of yr.
mouse, you can send a letter to yr. state's reps via email requesting support
for HR1645. Many times, many, many times, persons with diabetes do not get
referred for self-management education by MD's. Thanks, Priscilla Schell,
RN,CDE PS The CDE exam is tough; I just took it in May. It has to be taken
every 5 years.
