I had a trigger finger 3 years ago.  It required two steroid injections, 8 
weeks apart, to treat it.  It hasn't returned.  I went to a "hand specialist" 
at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.  He did say that it is not uncommon for 
insulin-dependent diabetics to have more than one trigger finger.  Good luck
