Disetronic Medical Systems, Inc. Announces Preferred Provider Agreement With Employers Health Insurance Company Subsidiary of Humana Inc.

ST. PAUL, Minn., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Disetronic Medical Systems, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of insulin pumps for the treatment of diabetes, announced today the signing of an agreement with Humana Inc.'s subsidiary, Employers Health Insurance Company (EHI), that will make Disetronic the preferred supplier of insulin pumps to EHI Members.

Under the terms of the agreement, Disetronic Medical Systems Inc. will provide insulin pumps to EHI members who have type 1 diabetes and would benefit from insulin pump therapy. These products include the company's H-TRON(R)plus insulin pump along with two new models, the Dahedi(R) and the D-TRON(TM). EHI currently has 1.4 million members.

"Intensive therapy" using an insulin pump has been shown to improve quality of life, lower medical costs and reduce long-term complications for people with type 1 diabetes. Insulin pump therapy is growing rapidly, though less than one out of ten people with type 1 diabetes currently use an insulin pump. A recent study showed that insulin pump therapy is practiced by more than 50% of all doctors and diabetes educators who have type 1 diabetes themselves.

Dr. Patrik DeHaes, President and CEO of Disetronic Medical Systems, Inc., stated, "This agreement allows EHI Members access to the most recent developments in insulin pump technology. We are looking forward to our relationship with EHI and providing EHI Members with superior products to control their diabetes."

Gail Scarborough, National Director of Ancillary Networks, said, "We are pleased to have Disetronic as a preferred provider for Employers Health. We are impressed with Disetronic's insulin pump products and related supplies along with their national service coverage for Members with diabetes."

Humana Inc., headquartered in Louisville, Ky., is one of the nation's largest publicly traded managed health care companies, with approximately 5.9 million medical members located in 15 states and Puerto Rico.
