I too have yet to pay for a meter.  When my son was dx. in Dec. 98 the
hospital diabetic educator gave him a accu-check advantage.  His
pediatrician gave him a fast-take for school and I requested a prescription
from the doc. for another and got a 2nd accu-check after leaving the other
at church and getting snowed in.  It may sound like alot to have 3 but when
one is left at school and considering all his doses are based on his
readings an extra has been quite handy.
