A condition where the placenta partially or completely blocks the 
opening from the birth canal. With a partial blockage, the may 
correct itself as the pregnancy progresses. If not it can be 
dangerous to both the mother and child. As the cervix dialates prior 
to birth the placenta can rupture and tear arterial blood supply to 
both mother and child with disastorous results. There have been some 
rare cases where unknowning medical personal have gone to perform a 
cervical exam on an expectant mom and inadvertantly ruptured the 
placenta during the exam. 

The good news is that with modern ultrasound technology, these 
situations can be diagnosed well in advance and the danger can be
