[IP] Re: Not the Food Police: V13 #759

Dear Flannery and IP readers,

What you wrote in this part of your otherwise very sympathetic and sensitive
letter, requires a clear response, does it not?

"During a recent visit we were all in the car with the kiddos, and my sister
(while driving) said she could tell her blood sugar was out of wack and needed
help with directions. She did not recognize any of her surroundings. We were
in her neighborhood only a few blocks from her house, headed to a place she
has been to many times. When I suggested she pull over and let me drive so she
could check her blood sugar, she said no. So scary!..."

In my opinion, your advice had nothing to do with being supportive, or with the
Food Police.
It has to do with potentially endangering human life.
It is not being supportive letting her drive you, children, or a car itself, in
that case.
I had a friend sitting in a parked car who was killed by the driver of another
car who had blacked out.
I could quote another cases where an otherwise "good" driver lost consciousness
and caused terrible death, injury and suffering to others.

I am not well enough versed to advise what can be done in the circumstances you
describe, but perhaps other readers are?

Very best wishes,
Alice Mosley
