Re: [IP] Medicare and test strip payment issue

I feel really fortunate now. All I do is fill out a log sheet w/28 days of
results for Medicare. They average the number of tests I do a day & send the
strips to me thru my mail order pharmacy. I get 19 boxes of 50 ct boxes for
three months. That's a whole lot more than 3 strips a day!

Some insurances use how many times you are treated in Emergency Room for
lows.
It is less costlier to RX stripes than to pay for EM Room.

Shirley,
As I understand it the 'allotted' number of tests/day is up to 7; not
positive about the 7. CIGNA is only paying for 3 of the 11-12 test strips I
use each day. They say I don't have enough low BG's to warrant more than 3.
I have a minimum of 10% of my readings below 60mgdl that I catch with my
hypoglycemic unawareness. I could not believe they said that number was not
enough. Wonder how many times they think I need to go low to test more than
3 times/day? This reconsideration was decided "by one nurse and one doctor"
at River Trust; for CIGNA who is the Medicare payer.
