[IP] Wireless Insulin Pump Approved by FDA

In a press release <http://www.animascorp.com/ViewAnnouncements.aspx?ID=85>
dated July 1, 2008, Animas Corp. announced the FDA approval of their new
wireless insulin pump, the OneTouch Ping. The Ping is the first insulin pump
that communicates with a blood glucose meter-remote using wireless

The OneTouch Ping Glucose Management System is being marketed as a "uniquely
integrated meter/pump system with remote insulin delivery capabilities and
compatible software".

But what does it actually do? According to Animas, a person can calculate an
insulin dose and choose to instruct the pump to deliver them wirelessly,
without without having to touch the pump,This gives people more freedom and
flexibility when using an insulin pump.

The Ping also has a color screen for easy readability and is able to deliver
the lowest basal increments (0.025 U/hr) and lowest bolus increments (0.05
U) of any pump on the market today. This can help pump users to fine tune
their insulin delivery more precisely.

OneTouch Ping will be ready for marketing in mid-August 2008.
