 Ah, I just found a page that says the Cornish Cross (white rock crossed with a
cornish), aka a broiler, bred for meat, is the standard bird of the commercial
poultry industry. That would make sense how their birds could grow so fast and
be in and out of the processing plant so quickly, and without hormones etc. The
white eggs found at the supermarket come from Pearl Leghorns (high production
layers), which is the standard bird for commercial egg production.
