RE: [IP] insulin resistance and pumps

I had insulin resistance when I went on the pump. I started with 300 ml a
day, some days more. My ratio was 1 unit of insulin for 2 grams of carb.
After going on the pump and adding Actos to my meds I have been able to
reduce my insulin down to and average of 120 ml a day. My Basal's are 60
units a day. My ratio is 1 unit of insulin to 6 carbs. On MDI I was
injecting 6 to 8 times a day. My A1c during all of this has remained between
5.4% to 5.8%. The pump has helped me control the Dawn Phenomenon and given
me better quality of life. Oh and the insulin has allowed me to gain 40 lbs
in 2 years.

Subject: [IP] insulin resistance and pumps

Can someone here please talk about using a pump if you have insulin
resistance? I was talking to a friend the other day and realized I knew
nothing! I would appreciate it...she is thinking about getting a pump but
she has pretty intense insulin resistance. Initially I said I thought a pump

ought to help her get better control...and then I realized I didn't know
what I was talking about.

An update on me, I am seeing the CDE Friday to move forward on getting *my*
pump. The new endo thinks it's a good idea for me since my BG's are out of
control lately.

Thanks a lot.
