The MiniMed 2001 Implantable Insulin Pump is a key component to MiniMed's
ultimate goal: the creation of a true artificial pancreas. The pump has
received the CE mark for approval of sales in the European market. While
currently available for use in France, in the United States it is in
clinical trials. MiniMed anticipates submitting the pump to the FDA for
approval by Q2/96, with approval likely to follow within two years. Clinical
trials are closed to new applicants. Over 600 of the devices have been
implanted worldwide.
