Re: [IP] LDL

I am going through the same problems with the VA and Vytorin. Both the VA
and my non-VA doctors want my LDL below 100. I have been on Vytorin 10/40 for
over a year wiht my non VA Cardiologist. My VA doctor on my last visit said
that the VA will provide Vytorin upon proof of medical need. I guess that means
it is almost in the VA formulary. The VA doctor submitted a prescription for
Vytorin and it was refused until she tries other drugs or dosage increases
of formulary drugs to determine if that will reduce my LDL. My LDL in June was
46. I believe that Vytorin is responsible for this.
I am in the process of changing VA hospitals so I have decided to put a hold
on my next step and address it once I have my new hospital physical and exam
with my new doctor.
I will update this string as I go through this process. One thing is for
certain - I will not give up taking Vytorin.

My Cardiologist wants my LDL below 70 also. The Veterans Hospital refuses to
give me the Vytorin that he says I need. {It isn't in their formulary}. I
have NO outside insurance. 3 of my immediate family members take cholesterol
meds. My father died of it at age 43. I am diabetic of 12 years and on an
insulin pump and the government doesn't care. Barbara
