A snip from the diabetes mall newsletter:
<<<An interesting note from the Children With Diabetes Conference just held in
Pasadena, CA. A large percentage of the parents who have children on pumps
report their child's insulin effect seems to be reduced from the first day
using a new infusion site to the second day to the third day. Some kids are as
young as one year old, and most have very small basal insulin delivery,
usually 0.05 u/hr to 0.4 u/hr. Further discussion suggested it may be caused
by crystalization of the insulin on the tubing due to the very slow insulin
delivery. Dilution of the insulin appears to help, and a couple of parents
reported less of this problem after switching from Humalog to Novolog
