An elephant ear is a pie crust shaped piece of dough also fried in oil. A funnel cake has powdered sugar sprinkled over it and an elephant ear is covered in an icing, white, caramel, chocolate, etc. We have both at our fair every August. I can never resist getting one of each and then regreting it as I take massive quantities of insulin to cover them!
