Re: [IP] A1C results

Up to recently I have tested 4 times a day on average
(sometimes down to 2x/day), am on MDDI and still
manage to stay below 7 on my A1c. I eat a good deal of
Carbs also......what I have learned is to eat some
protein with the carbs and to be REALLY honest with
myself about how many carbs I actually ate and adjust
my pre/post meal Humalog injection appropriately. In
other words, I learned how to cheat.....now for the
honesty with myself, my waistline has suffered
somewhat (up a dress size), but I feel more in control
of my diabetes, rather than it dictating when/what I
can eat. I am still very sensitive to small amounts of
insulin and realize that this is not the case for
everyone. I also know that other things not under our
control can get in the way (I have the dawn effect BG
rise and that is one reason why I am pursuing a pump).
I guess the main point to this is to be honest with
yourself about your food intake and bolus
appropriately.....that may help with the A1c over the
long haul.
